Ask a long-range shooter what sits under the back of their rifle and most will say a rear bag. It is one of the simplest pieces of gear in shooting, and one of the most useful. It is also one of the easiest to leave behind.

What a rear bag does
Up front, the rifle rests on a bipod, a pack or a front bag. At the back, the toe of the stock rests on a small, firm bag. With your support hand you squeeze or relax the bag, which raises or lowers the back of the rifle a little at a time. That lets you settle the crosshairs on the target without muscling the rifle, so the rifle stays supported and your body stays relaxed.
The problem: it is never where you need it
Most rear bags live in a range bag, a truck or the bottom of a pack. At the range that is fine. In the field, a shot can appear in seconds and disappear just as fast. By the time you have dug a bag out, the moment is often gone.
The Sling Steady idea
Sling Steady started with a simple thought on a long drive home from a training session in 2012: what if the rear bag rode on the rifle sling? Your sling passes straight through the bag, and the bag ties to your rear QD point or swivel. It travels with the rifle, and it is already under the stock when you get into position. No tools, nothing to unpack.
Stability you have with you, not stability you left in the truck.
Light, sturdy and always ready
The Pro weighs 9.5 oz and the Sport 6.3 to 6.8 oz. When you are covering ground, every ounce counts, and the lighter the better. Sling Steady takes the place of the separate, heavier rear bag you would otherwise haul in your pack, so you don't get fatigued carrying extra weight you don't need. The three-layer build keeps it sturdy. No tools, nothing to unpack: it is Sling Steady Ready.
What is in the bag
- A three-layer build: a neoprene-based outer shell, a synthetic suede stretch layer, and an abrasion-resistant grip fabric on the contact face.
- SteadyFill inside, with hook-and-loop ports so you can add or remove fill to set the firmness you want.
- Two sizes: the Pro 9" for bolt-action, sport and hunting rifles, and the Sport 7" for AR-platform rifles.
Every bag is made in the USA and protected by U.S. Patent No. 12,339,095. Shop Sling Steady.
