How it started
In 2012 Duncan Jones, a shooter for more than four decades, enrolled in a private long-range shooting school and used a squeeze bag rear rest for the first time. On the six-hour drive home he had the idea of attaching the bag to the rifle sling. A few attempts later he settled on sliding the sling through the bag, and within days he had a hand-stitched prototype.
Over the following years Duncan built and modified about a dozen versions.
Why it exists
In 2022 Duncan took his friend, now partner, Kenn Fritts shooting. Kenn had little experience with long-range rifles, and the two set out to make a rear bag that any shooter can carry without thinking about it: hunters, sport and competition shooters, and owners of AR-platform and bolt-action rifles. Because the bag rides on the sling, it is already under the stock when you get into position.

The design is protected by U.S. Patent No. 12,339,095, with Duncan Jones and Kenn Fritts named as inventors. See our patents page. Sling Steady bags are made in the USA.
